Poor but Sexy is a single publication concerning Berlin´s subculture of night clubbing and nightlife. The fall of the Berlin Wall changed everything for the city — and also for its music and ‘spirit’. The city profits from its low-budget coolness – as the mayor of Berlin, once stated, “Berlin is poor, but sexy”.
The districts where the club scene is located have since been thoroughly gentrified, causing the demolition of various clubs.
Divided in three chapters, the purpose of this special edition is to create awareness for this problem through a showcase of articles and archive images that reflect Berlin`s club culture. Along with the publication it was also created a booklet (photo archive) and a special Berlin Club Guide, showing the most iconic clubs in the city.
